Edgy, polished and inventive, Charlie Pickering is one of the most exciting names in Australian comedy.
"Australia's Best ****" The Adelaide Advertiser
In what’s becoming a trend, 2007 was a busy year for Charlie with performances at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, where he was nominated for Best Established Comedy, and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as popping up at the Castlemaine State Festival, The Canberra Street Theatre and comedy clubs throughout Australia. Keeping his international jetsetting lifestyle alive, Charlie spent 2 weeks in Johannesburg, South Africa, as part of the UN Comedy Roadshow and a month in New Zealand supporting Danny Bhoy on his National Tour.
Yes, our Charlie sure does get around!
Charlie also returned to radio with a new early morning radio show on Triple M, aptly named Toast, with Terri Psiakis and Justin Hamilton and continues to appear regularly on Triple M’s Drive show with Wil & Lehmo.
2008 brings with it a new TV show, with Charlie, and fellow comedian Michael Chamberlin, creating The Mansion, a fictional news show for The Comedy Channel premiering in April.
"Charming company and a natural raconteur
****" The Scotsman
In 2006 Charlie performed in his first Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala and had solo seasons at the Perth International Arts Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and Cracker Comedy Festival in Sydney. He also premiered his new show Auto at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and topped off a sell out season with a prestigious Barry Award Nomination for Most Outstanding Show. Auto then travelled to New Zealand and Edinburgh to rave reviews, followed by a sold out season at the Soho Theatre in London.
2005 was also huge for Charlie as he picked up a Perrier Best Newcomer Nomination in Edinburgh and was named Best International Guest by the NZ Comedy Guild."You won't be disappointed " The Independent UK
2005 was also huge for Charlie as he picked up a Perrier Best Newcomer Nomination in Edinburgh and was named Best International Guest by the NZ Comedy Guild.
Charlie began to perform solo stand up in the pubs and clubs of Melbourne in 2000. He started the cult comedy room Stagetime with fellow comic Michael Chamberlin, each taking turns as compere. Since then he has built a reputation as a quality performer, a talented host and a natural storyteller.
"Dangerously funny" Cape Town Argus
But his talents don't end with live work. Charlie spent two years co-hosting Triple J's Drive Show and was a regular on ABC-TV's comedy show Stand Up! You may also have spotted him in 2004 most Friday morning's with Michael Chamberlin dissecting the news of the week on Nine's Today program. Most recently he has been a regular host on the Comedy Channel and also performed stand up on Rove [Live].
"Masterful ****" New Zealand Herald
"Stuffs more material into an hour than other comics do in two" Herald Sun
